The Name

Tot is a cute and harmless name in American English. But that's not true in many other languages.

In German, "tot" means "dead". We learned this after the product was launched and it was too late to change the name on the App Store, website, screenshots, social media accounts, product reviews, and many other places. We acknowledge this situation in one of our product screenshots which shows the definition of "tot" as "no longer living in Germany".

We thought that was the end of it, but have since learned that a short three letter word gets used a lot for slang. For example:

Luckily in Danish it's harmless, meaning "wisp", "tuft", or "wad". We're sure there are more, but this just shows you how hard product naming can be.

If any of these names have offended you, please just know that it was never our intention!
