Hi,

I recently purchased xScope to mirror my display to my iPad & iPod while developing. It’s been saving me tonnes of time, however there are a few niggling issues which I hope you can clear up.

• Using multiple spaces in Lion *kinda* works. The display on the iPad isn’t always left from where I want it on my Mac.
• xScope doesn’t remember the position from session to session
• xScope doesn’t remember per-device positions from session to session
• sometimes the position gets reset when showing all spaces/desktops/dashboard, etc…

I’d love it if you could clarify that there is indeed a way to do these, or if they are minor bugs I’d love a fix! I’m really enjoying xScope and solving these would make my workflow even faster than xScope has already made it.

Thanks for a great little app.

cheers,
jamie

    Jamie,

Can you tell me what versions of Mac OS, iOS, and xScope you're currently using? We have had a couple of updates and I would like to know in case we need to test your setup on our side.

    Thanks,

    Jamie,

Spaces is buggy with any number of apps, especially those that don't conform to standard Mac OS X windows. We've reported these bugs to Apple but we're not confident in their willingness to fix. Spaces has changed in Lion and will continue to change so hopefully it will improve.

Not sure what you mean by "xScope doesn’t remember the position from session to session" Do you mean of the ruler? of Frames? What part are you referring to?

    • xScope doesn’t remember per-device positions from session to session

Yes, we know. It's not an easy problem since there's no way to track what you currently have your cursor over. A better solution is to use the new file mode in the mirror tool that way the image will be set to the origin of the screen each and every time you use it. Simply drag an image file to the xScope dock icon in 3.1 to use this feature.

"sometimes the position gets reset when showing all spaces/desktops/dashboard, etc…"

Again, of what? Which tool is being reset? Let us know and we'll see what we can find out. Thx.

    Hi Gedeon,
To clarify... xScope doesn't remember the mirroring position from session to session. So if I fast-app switch, lock the iOS screen, or xScope iOS crashes I have to reset the mirroring positioning. Though xScope remembers whether I had lock enabled, so first I'll have to disable the lock - then reset the position and the zoom.

Ideally xScope on my iPad or iPhone (w Retina) or iPod would remember the position, zoom and lock state from session to session. The file mode, for me, isn't an option as I'm mirroring the display from the Unity game engine editor to iOS.

As for positioning being reset - it's the positioning of the mirroring. Sometimes when changing spaces/desktops/dashboard - some combination of that - the mirroring of xScope is forgotten (though again, not the lock status), and I'll have to once again drag the view around on the iOS device.

If remembering positions on devices is difficult for various programming reasons an AWESOME work around would be to be able to save a selection of preset positions. My Unity & Photoshop sessions always have the viewport in the same position on my Mac. So if I could save a number of user defined and named viewports - then access the list on my iOS device - that would save me a bunch of time.

    cheers,
    jamie
