Iconfactory Contact/Feedback for: Software
Hey,
Got a little bug to report on Flare.
When you open a photo from iPhoto, it saves it back as a tif file with .jpg extension, so they are large uncompressed images. there's no option to select jpg or level of compression.
thanks!

Deniz,
What versions of Mac OS and Flare are you running? Also, what steps are you taking when you go through the save process?

Hey, sorry for the late response.
Using the latest versions of OSX, iphoto, and flare.
I set flare as the external editor application in iphoto. In iphoto, I select edit in external editor; flare launches, I do the edits and click on the "save to iphoto and quit" on the upper left side. It adds the new image in iphoto as a jpg, but the file is 48.8MB for the 12mpix image, which is uncompressed. Attached is a screenshot with the preview file info showing that it's a tif with a jpg extension. The jpg file will only open in photoshop after changing the extension to .tif
interestingly it does this to jpgs, but it will save raw images in iphoto as proper jpgs.
hope this helps to identify the problem... this really puts a damper on the iphoto integration
thanks!
Deniz

Hello Deniz,
I just did a test with Flare version 1.2.1 and iPhoto 9.2.1 on 10.6.8. And I didn't run into the problem you speak of.
Is it possible you can provide a download link to the same image, so that we can do a proper test?
Our programmer, Wolfgang, is currently out of the country, so he won't be able to provide any technical support until next week.

Hey,
It's not an issue of amount of jpg compression, as it's saving it as an uncompressed tif file with a jpg extension. It doesn't give you an option to select a file format or compression when you are saving to iPhoto.

Deniz,
We might have a fix available for you soon, you might remember hearing about Apple's Sandboxing requirements. Those have held up the new version of Flare, so as soon as we get it sorted out we can can an update released that will hopefully fix this for you.
Thanks,

Deniz,
FYI, we just fixed this problem in version 1.3, and we are hoping to finish testing by next week, and submit to Mac App Store for review.
